it’s sunday morning around 7. it’s summer so the sun is well out but not high enough to be hot. the run down station is virtually empty except for a kid on the seats trying to sleep off his hangover and an elderly homeless woman quietly scrounging a bin for unfinished cigarettes. you eagerly wait for the train to arrive. you could be meeting a friend you haven’t seen in a long time, a visiting sibling, or a girl. either way you have that feathery feeling of anticipation in you. and then you hear that clacking. it echoes in the distance as you feel the carriages rolling towards the platform. an automated voice mutters station names faintly in the background. the warm sydney breeze brushes across your face as the wheels screech and the train heaves to a stop. the engine exhales and the doors pry themselves open.
